by William Meertens last modified 24-09-2008 18:20

Christiane Soeder (AUT) from Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team won today the silver medal in the individual time trial over 25,15 km at the UCI Road World Championships in Varese (ITA). Soeder were only 7,56 seconds slower than the US-American Amber Neben, who claimed victory. The hot fight for the bronze medal won the German Judith Arndt.

The Olympic Champion Kristin Armstrong (USA) reached the finish with the fifth best time. The time gap to a podium spots was only less than 4 seconds. Karin Thürig (SUI), the bronze medalist from Beijing, took the sixth place while her team-mate, the youngster Pascale Schnider (SUI) showed a great performance in the field of the World best cyclists and took the 22nd place.

The Austrian Christiane Soeder, who won already at the World Championships in Stuttgart last year a bronze medal in the time trial, were riding in an excellent manner and increased her speed in the second part of the race, but wasn’t able to catch Amber Neben, who were today the strongest.
