National Championship Round-Up and Alpine Training

by William Meertens last modified 04-07-2007 12:28

The last week has seen Global Racing Team – Bio-Racer gain 10 championship medals around the world and this is despite the British Road Race Championships being cancelled due to bad weather.

Before the 3-day race ‘Rabobank Ster Zeeuwsche Eilanden’, some of the team departed for their home countries to race in various championships over the traditional week of races.

The week got off to a great start with the podium clean sweep at the UK criterium Championships, and continued well with the team gaining in total 10 medals, including 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 5 bronze medals.  On top of this the team had 2 4th places in Norway and an excellent 10th Place in Holland by Linda Ringlever.

Louise Moriarty was over the moon with her defence of the Irish Time Trial Championships.  Over recent weeks, she has been concentrating on preparing for the European Championships, so this win was a welcome boost against great conpetition. At the European Championships, Global Racing have also got Lizzie Armitstead, Katie Curtis, Jo Rowsell and Nikki Harris racing.

After the National Championships the team travelled to the Alps, to stay in Val Thorens to get some valuable hill training done before the stage races that form much of the teams schedule over the second half of the season.

However 3 days into the training, an unplanned day off the bike was necessary as the weather turned from 28 degrees, to cold and snowy weather overnight.  The girls took the opportunity to go to the swimming pool and have a lazy day before the next set of mountain training.

Below is a complete breakdown of the championship results:

  • Japanese Road Race Championships – 3rd (Masami Mashimo)
  • Japanese Time Trial Championships – 3rd (Masami Mashimo)
  • British Team Time Trial Championships – 1st (Jo Rowsell)
  • British Team Time Trial Championships – 3rd (Nikki, Lizzie, Katie)
  • Irish Time Trial Championships – 1st (Louise Moriarty)
  • Irish Road Race Championships – 3rd (Louise Moriarty)

  • British Criterium Championships – 2nd (Jo Rowsell)
  • British Criterium Championships – 3rd (Katie Curtis)
  • Norwegian Team Time Trial Champs – 2nd
