Leda Cox gets 2008 season off to a great start with a win and a 4th place in her first US races with new team.

by William Meertens last modified 25-03-2008 21:11

Leda had her first two races in Boulder, Colorado at the weekend having only been in the US 5 days and won her first race and came 4th in the second. Both were Elite Criteriums and attracted good pro/elite fields.

the official results have not been published yet but I can give you a brief breakdown:

Saturday 22nd - Boulder North Colorado Criterium: A breakaway was forged early on with 3 America's Dairyland riders in it including Leda. Leda punctured while in the break, dropped off, changed the wheel, chased to get back on and attacked the group as she caught them from where she continued alone to take the win as a solo breakaway. it was a great day for her team as her team mates took 2nd and 3rd too as the break stayed away. At the finish, an emotional Leda dedicated the win to her father, Alan who passed away last year after a long battle with cancer.
Top 3:
1st Leda Cox (GBR) America's Dairyland,
2nd Carrie Higgins (USA) America's Dairyland,
3rd Clare Vlahopoulos (AUS) America's Dairyland.

Sunday 23rd March - NCCA Boulder Criterium: This was a much more controlled race with a strong presence from the Colavita and High Road teams and in the end, despite many attacks it came down to a sprint. The America's Diaryland team lead out the sprint for their sprinter Cari Higgins who in the end was just pipped to the line by Tiffany Cromwell (Team Colavita). In turn, Leda was pipped to 3rd place by Mara Abbot (Team High Road)

Result: 1st Tiffany Cromwell (team Colavita),
2nd Carrie Higgins (America's Diaryland),
3rd Mara Abbot (Team High Road),
4th Leda Cox (America's Dairyland)

"The bicycle was the first machine to redefine successfully the notion of what is feminine. The bicycle came to symbolize something very precious to women their independence."
