Firstly,
Masami Mashimo has joined the team. Masami is from Kanagawa, Japan
and has raced in Europe throughout 2006 for Dutch Club team Moving
Ladies.
Twice
the Japanese Cyclo-Cross Champion, Masami has a great record in the
sport and her aggressive racing style will blend with the mix of
riders already with FBUK for 2007 very well.
Having
impressed the team with her road rides in the Tour of Brittany and
the Euragio Tour this season, Team FBUK are delighted to have her on
board for 2007. Masami will travel to Europe early in the year and
will feature first for the team in the Omloop Het Volk, in March.
Meanwhile,
cyclo-cross riders Gabby Day and Helen Wyman continued their European
cross season in the UK and Italy respectively. Current UK Number 1,
Gabby returned to England to race at Mallory Park to defend her lead
in the UK National series. Fighting a cold for the last week, Gabby
still put in a good performance on the day to finish 2nd
behind Great Britain’s rising star of MTB, Amy Hunt.
World
Number 3 Helen Wyman travelled to Italy to compete in the G.P.
Cittadi Verbania in Northern Italy. In front of sponsors Guerciotti,
it was important to put in a good performance and she didn’t
disappoint. Leading from the first corner, Helen powered away from
the rest of the field to finish one and a half minutes up on her
nearest rival.
A
large number of the FBUK squad are now getting together in Belgium
for a team event over the next week. This will allow the rider to
get to know each other ahead of the road season. The hard work for
the riders has already started and everyone at FBUK are confident of
a great season in 2007.
FBUK
will soon announce new sponsors for 2007 along with their new team
name and team clothing.
