Cox continues her great form in Canadian UCI race.
Thursday the 12th of June saw British Professional Leda Cox finish 5th overall the 5 day UCI Tour De Pei in Canada. The result comes not long after riding in support of Nicole Cooke in the Great Britain team at the recent Tour De L’Aude and it caps what is without question the Britain’s best season of her 5 year Pro career.
The 5 day Canadian race was held entirely on Prince Edward Island (hence PEI!) and Cox, who was guesting for the NEBC/CycleLoft team started well with a 9th place on the first stage which ended in a bunch sprint won by team Menikini’s Rochelle Gilmour but it was on stage 3 that Cox laid the groundwork for the High GC position by attacking and forging a small breakaway group that stayed away to the finish where Cox took 5th on the stage and moved up to 5th overall.
The race brings to a close the first half of Cox’s season which has seen her stamp a dominant mark on American women’s racing, winning seven races including the Tour of Tucson and Front Range Classic stage races. Following her return to London her attention will soon turn to the two British national titles up for grabs in the coming weeks; the national circuit champs and the road race title. The races will mark the start of another new chapter in Cox’s pro career as she seeks to seal a new contract in the June UCI transfer window having taken the decision to move on from her American team where she was based in Boulder, Colorado.
