Armstrong on third position in the overall ranking

by William Meertens last modified 28-02-2008 19:11

After the second stage in the „Women’s Tour of New Zealand“ over a distance of 94 km from Martinborough to Masterton, Kristin Armstrong from the Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team is on the third position in the overall ranking only 16 seconds behind the current leader Oenone Wood (Team High Road). Wood claimed victory in today’s race ahead of Lorian Graham and Miho Oki, while Armstrong took the fourth place, finishing at the same time as the first cyclists.

Tomorrow the “Women’s Tour of New Zealand” will continue with the most difficult stage in the tour, a 125km race including six major hill climbs and finishing with a 12km “Top of the Mountain” climb to the top of Admiral Hill in the Wairarapa.

"I think the level women's cycling in the USA is improving, but I do wish more women were willing to take risks in the races and attack more often, as this is what makes racing exciting. I don't think that most women realize that the only way they will get stronger is by attacking, racing hard in the wind and taking chances."
