A TREBLE FOR VOS?
It is maybe now that the weight of the stakes could start increasing on the shoulders of Marianne Vos. At the moment of taking on the final climb up the Mur de Huy, the Dutch rider will however need to be as light as possible to try and become the first to win three times consecutively the Women’s Fleche Wallonne. Victorious this year of the Italian leg of the World Cup (Trofeo Alfredo Binada), the two-time title holder shows up with serious assets, including her position as the leader of the UCI classification. However the competition promises to be harsh. And in the final explanation, one should expect to see Nicole Cooke, victorious in 2003, 2005 and 2006.
Since the start of the season, Vos has mainly learned to keep an eye on Sweden’s Emma Johansson, who took control of the World Cup leader’s jersey after winning the Ronde Van Drenthe. Germany’s Judith Arndt (2nd of the UCI classification), Olympic Champion Kristin Armstrong or even Italy’s Fabiana Luperini, crowned in 2001 and 2002 could also be on the photo-finish landscape.
