Riders’ commitment to a new cycling (update +12) by William Meertens — last modified 30-09-2007 23:47
There are currently many discussions about this paper. Certainly since the hottest candidate to win the world title with the men refuses to sign. The UCI on the other hand is not happy with this, but can't do anything about it. They certainly can't exclude somebody from a race who didn't sign. It's an illegal document that only has a sentimental value. At least for now.

Emma Silversides Blog 2 by William Meertens — last modified 22-01-2008 20:11
I write again from my current base in Spain, which I am happy to say, continues to present mild and sunny conditions. It is certainly a huge advantage to be here as I see the forecast for Belgium and England; 'rain and wintery showers'. Indeed my preferred place for training in England, the Cotswolds, seems to be underwater in many places. Some of my favourite picturesque villages and towns such as Tewksbury and Upton upon Severn are regularly featuring in the news. I am not sure how badly Belgium is being hit but however that might be I am convinced that being here is the best for my training.
Emma reports from Spain. by William Meertens — last modified 15-02-2008 09:01
Well I'm still here in Spain and making the most of our last week here in the milder weather. I have just finished a block of long steady rides of 6-6 1/2 hours in duration each with a day or two of recovery in between depending upon the sensation. These rides have allowed me to explore some new roads and see more of this area. More recently the almond blossom has flourished giving a snow carpet of delicate pinks and white to the valleys, truly beautiful. With such views to admire riding up the long cols is a doddle!

Plans are in place for the fall of 2009, as the city will again host the Tour of Lombardy, and the neighboring Swiss Canton of Ticino will host the World Championships in the city of Mendrisio. One professional who makes her home in Lombardy has both events on her calendar, but for different reasons. Bigla Cycling Team’s Veronica Andréasson hopes for a spot on the Swedish National Team for the women’s world championship road race in Mendrisio and, while normally cheering on boyfriend Gustav Larsson during the Tour of Lombardy, for 2009 she will enjoy a different role as the featured guide on Vélo Classic Tours Lake Como and Il Giro di Lombardia tour October 13-19.

A TREBLE FOR VOS? by William Meertens — last modified 20-04-2009 17:08
It is maybe now that the weight of the stakes could start increasing on the shoulders of Marianne Vos. At the moment of taking on the final climb up the Mur de Huy, the Dutch rider will however need to be as light as possible to try and become the first to win three times consecutively the Women’s Fleche Wallonne. Victorious this year of the Italian leg of the World Cup (Trofeo Alfredo Binada), the two-time title holder shows up with serious assets, including her position as the leader of the UCI classification. However the competition promises to be harsh. And in the final explanation, one should expect to see Nicole Cooke, victorious in 2003, 2005 and 2006.
"There's something about getting grimy and sweaty with the gals. You feel like you're breaking the rules. You're not made of sugar and spice and everything nice. You're not someone's girlfriend and you're not someone's mother. For that moment, at least, all you have to be is a cyclist."
