With the end of the Olympic Games, the women’s cycling circus continues with the 10th women World Cup race in this season. Today, the GP of Plouay (FRA) over 114,6 km took place in the region Bretagne. While the participants of the 2008 Olympic Games from the Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team take a break, Carla Ryan (AUS), Sarah Düster (GER), Emma Rickards (AUS) and Pascale Schnider (SUI) competed in the second last World Cup race of the season.

At the Olympic time trial in Beijing, the US American Kristin Armstrong from the Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team, who turned 35-year-old on Monday, claimed victory in a superior manner on the 23,5 km challenging time trial course. Armstrong finished in at time of 34.51,27 min, with an average speed of 40,4 km/h on the course over the Badaling pass.

Düster fourth at the GP Oberbaselbiet

At the fourth edition of the GP Oberbaselbiet in Zunzgen (SUI), a race with a handicap modus, Sarah Düster (GER) took the fourth place. The juniors and U23 riders started with a time advantage ahead of the elite group and couldn’t catch up by their chasers. Emilie Aubry (SUI) won the race in the finish sprint ahead of Jessica Schneeberger (SUI) and Eva Haueter (SUI).

Yesterday, for the first time the GP Mobilar/GP Aaretal, a national race in Switzerland, took place under sunny weather in Kirchdorf nearby Berne. The competition was carried out as a handicap race, what means that the juniors started with a time advantage to the amateur riders and the amateur started with an advantage to the elite racer.

Fourth rank for Karin Thürig

At the UCI women’s World Cup in Vargarda, Sweden, Karin Thürig from the Cervélo-Lifeforce finished fourth. That was her third fourth place within a week. On the 12 x 11 km course, Kori Kelley Seehafer (USA) claimed victory ahead of Kim Anderson in the finish sprint. The third place took Charlotte Becker who came together with Thürig and two other riders 1,10min after the winner to the finish straight.

The Swiss Karin Thürig claimed victory in the 18,6 km long time trial of the international „Thüringen Rundfahrt“ 10 seconds ahead of her team mate Christiane Soeder (AUT). The third place took the German Judith Arndt while Priska Doppmann (SUI) was finishing on the fifth position. Thürig had an average speed during the race on the course around of Schmölln of over 42 km per hour.

On the today’s Thursday, the third stage of the International “Thüringen Rundfahrt” with a 104,5 km course around the town Greiz took place. Priska Doppmann started after her yesterday’s success with the yellow leader jersey. The Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team were really active but at the end the Italian rider Noemi Cantele was able to finish solo and claimed victory ahead of Emma Johnsson (SWE) and Kimberly Anderson (USA). Carla Ryan finished together with the first group on position five only 47 seconds behind the winner. Christiane Soeder and Karin Thürig were completing the good result of the team with taking the ninth and the tenth rank. Priska Doppmann finishes with the peloton on position 24th and lost the leader jersey to Noemi Cantele.

Kristin Armstrong nominated for Beijing

USA Cycling announced this week 21 of its 24 nominees to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team, among them Kristin Armstrong from the Cervélo-Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team. She is qualified in both the women’s road race and time trial. The 2008 Games will be Armstrong’s second Olympic appearance after competing already in the women’s road race in Athens where she took the 8th place.

The result comes not long after riding in support of Nicole Cooke in the Great Britain team at the recent Tour De L’Aude and it caps what is without question the Britain’s best season of her 5 year Pro career.
