"If you have ever been anywhere near, or in, a bike crash, you never forget the sound of helmets and bikes and bodies hitting cement. Today, my friend and teammate Tricia went down on a rather benign stretch of road. Her helmet cracked from the blow and her glasses were crushed. Hurray for the UCI! Mandate those helmets. Today is her birthday. Thanks to the helmet, she'll live to see another."
